Activating Carlisle was an initiative delivered by The Place Agency to encourage businesses to activate vacant shops in Carlisle Street Balaclava. With up to $10,000 funding available for participating business operators, the program is designed to support small business to open up a new pop up store to sell, make, trade or create.
Whether it's a new business or an established operator, Activating Carlisle gets businesses up and trading as a popup i in a few weeks. And if it all works out, there is the potential to extend out to 12 months and ultimately a long-term lease.

Carlisle Street back to life
The program achieved it's targets of both total tenancies activated and unlocking key shopfronts which were long-term vacancies until our intervention. Both landlords and tenants were highly supportive of the program, with one landlord alone offering three spaces to the program for activation.
The result, has seen Carlisle Street roar back to life, with vacancy at rates consistent with pre-Covid levels and foot traffic trending upwards.
